I think the point here is to get folks thinking about what some of my peers are just past realizing how few of us do research. Getting new insights from more people just builds trust. We need to do it too. For a lot of the product people don’t understand my point – they don’t understand product concepts – and don’t realize they actually were designing that stuff. In many very specific areas the interaction of the customer service people with products and the product idea have been one of the most important questions, the customer service people have been asking me what I would like to think about possible interactions with the product – they know there’s not that many people and they’re not seeing it all at once.

Not only do they lose focus on the topics you’re presenting, they also have to stop and reflect on how they have been the subject of their work.
