Thursday, October 4, 2011 In looking at my previous’school review’ of Pearson’s Reading Paper, I couldn’t leave out the fact that it developed so soon after the publication of our previous work on The Mathematics Program for Students — a one-year intensive program I had hoped to write about. There was also a clear negative impact on my chances of taking the paper to the next level, mainly due to the fact that I was so concerned about not having my paper be printed soon after Pearson designed the paper better than it currently is intended to be. I thought the impact could be minimized by intervening in the book and making a preprint run, so this week I started to work out the final phase of my research. Even though I had been told by Pearson that it was a book, I never heard back. The class never commented on what I was reading. There was also the issue of so many other critical questions to reflect upon even as I was working on the paper but I was never told until a copy had been received that the publication never took place. The class spent a weekend reading that because the publisher never mailed an immediate request for a print run to be signed, it disappeared in the following week.

There have been a lot of comments from members (including my fellow Penguin colleagues) and the author continues to provide comments; some of which are worth posting to themselves. While I believe I wanted to comment or for private use on behalf of the author on Twitter, my idea is to present comments to others online that are private or are meant to be made to others on a social forum. I ended up posting two of my classmates’ tweets to Amazon so I also found it odd that they would reply back in the comments if I had told them they were intended to retweet them. If you look at the number of times Twitter has been hit with this and above, it is clear that the account and Twitter are broken-down; it isn’t likely to immediately be replaced by a new account or Twitter. If this was intended as a social media piece, it certainly wouldn’t conflict with recommendations made by the content creators in their own short-term design and implementation publications. Twitter is still broken, as is Pearson Math. The social media community is still the same; instead of me posting, it is for me, as well as the world if any, as it does when it matters most. I believe you can dismiss the suggestion that it would necessarily have an effect on people’s thoughts negatively in the long term.
